exceptional happenings is a three-channel video installation bridging text and image, movie and novel, and the American zeitgeist of the 20th and 21st century.

What I'm Looking For

2004, monitor, video, documentation, photographs

A woman sets out to photograph moments of intimacy. On an Internet dating site she writes: 'I'm looking for people who would like to be photographed in public revealing something of themselves...'

evening

2002, 2 projectors, 2 dvd players, synchronizer

evening continues Silver's interest in making private quotidian acts public. Through presenting a most everyday and ordinary activity, the installation is in turn overwhelming, sensual and threatening, as it moves towards its inevitable release.

ROOSTER

2001-2, video projector, screen, 4 dvd players, assorted monitors

Shelly Silver's video installation ROOSTER uses as its starting point an 18th century Jewish tale by Rabbi Nachman about a Prince who decides that he is a rooster, spending his time sitting naked under the dining room table eating stray corn that falls to the floor.

Hidden Among the Leaves / Caché Parmi les Feuilles
8 monitors, 3 projectors, 11 vcr's, walls, gravel, benches

Comprised of projectors, monitors, benches and a multitude of walls, Hidden Among the Leaves sets up a labyrinth of connecting spaces for the viewer to enter. From dark narrow corridors to cavernous waiting rooms, the light from the video monitors and projections provides the only form of illumination.
